Pomo is a free Pomodoro and study timer for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, built like an appliance from another decade: a split-flap countdown, four lamps and one red button. It keeps a record of every session, syncs it through iCloud, exports to Apple Calendar and CSV, and on the Mac blocks distracting apps and websites. There is no account. Made by SmartHouse Technologies UG, Hamburg.

The story

Most Pomodoro timers are a number on a flat panel. Pomo started from the question of what the timer would look like if it were an object on the desk, the kind of appliance that outlives three kitchens. The answer was an enamel housing, a display that flips one digit at a time, jewel lamps for the cycle and a mechanical push button that drops when pressed. The tomato lives in the lamps and the button cap. Everything else is quiet.

An appliance comes with an owner's manual, so the printed matter followed. The first-run leaflet is set in two colours on cream paper, with numbered figures and a form number at the foot of the page. The record of use is printed the same way, and so are the App Store screenshots and this website. One voice for everything the owner reads, and the hardware is left to look like hardware.

Pomo is built in Hamburg by SmartHouse Technologies UG, a one-person software company. Version 1.0 was submitted to App Review in November 2026. The timer, the record, iCloud sync, export and the Mac blocker are all free, with no in-app purchases.

What is free

Several Pomodoro timers for the Mac charge a subscription for the parts below. In Pomo they are supplied with the appliance.

Sync. The record travels between Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch through the owner's own iCloud.
Export. Sessions go to Apple Calendar by hand or automatically, and the record saves as CSV or text.
Import. The record reads histories from Pomofocus, Session, Toggl Track, spreadsheets and calendar files, passing over sessions it already holds.
The blocker. On the Mac, listed apps are hidden and listed websites are turned away in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Opera.
Adjustable durations. Focus, short break, long break and cycle length, in whole minutes.
Session titles. So the record shows what the time went on.
Commitment mode, the fullscreen break and the metronome tick.
